River Rejuvenation

This river cruise into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon offers the chance to explore some of the world’s most spectacular and lush rainforest environments from the comfort of a fully-equipped 14-cabin vessel.

HighlivesPrice: From £2000 per person

The boat is staffed by yoga, meditation and massage specialists to elevate your journey to a new level of bliss and wellbeing.

This 4day/3night journey sails just a few times a year and provides guests with comfortable cabins and delicious Amazon cuisine. The experience involves frequent excursions into more remote tributaries and local villages, provides safe opportunities for swimming and hiking expeditions to explore the remote Pacaya Samiria reserve’s incredible fauna and flora at close hand.

A rare opportunity to take a high-quality river cruise deep into the Peruvian Amazon combined with a comprehensive wellness programme. The experience includes all meals and three nights aboard the recently refitted MC Delfin II, which provides comfortable wood-panelled twin cabins, silent A/C units and private bathrooms with hot showers.

Uniquely, the journey provides massage, yoga classes both aboard and on a river beach, as well as meditation and jungle cleansing sessions.

You will be picked up and dropped off at the airport in Iquitos, transported by bus to and from the river port town of Nauta before being escorted aboard the vessel to begin the voyage into the remote Pacaya Samiria reserve- an area of protected, flooded forest that is roughly the size of a small Central American country and offers countless opportunities to observe one of the planet’s richest habitats.

The luxurious boat will be your home, but the journey involves frequent excursions in skiff vessels and dugout canoes, as well as expeditions on foot into the jungle, swimming in safe, pure locations and visits to pristine beaches and remote river communities.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive at Iquitos airport
Assisted by our guides, travel by coach for around 90 minutes to the river port of Nauta, to board the DelfinII, be shown to your comfortable quarters before being invited for a welcome Pisco Sour cocktail before dinner. After the meal, a master shaman will host a special meditation and stargazing ceremony on the top observation deck.
  • Day 2: Yanallpa/Belluda Cano, Dorada river meditation
05.30am- An early morning yoga session on the hammock deck amid birdsong and the Amazon sunrise. Followed by a breakfast buffet where you can sample the exotic fruits of the rainforest. 07.30am- Disembark to visit the community of Yanallpa and a morning hike through the jungle. This walk provides an excellent opportunity to spot birds such as snail kites, black-tailed ant birds, manikins, tanagers and hummingbirds. After around an hour, arrive at a lovely lagoon and set out in dugout canoes to visit the giant ceiba tree, renowned for its spiritual strength. Reach a white sandy beach for an Amazon black mud skin treatment, be revived afterwards by a cold river bath and fresh fruit juices before returning to the Delfin for 11.00 am. 3.00pm- The Delfin has by now reached the Pacaya River, in the heart of the largest protected wetland forest reserve in the world- filled with lakes, swamps and streams, the reserve becomes flooded in the rainy season. Board a comfortable skiff boat to explore this beautiful land and go in search of several species of monkeys. As dusk approaches, take a swim in a refreshing black water lagoon. 9.30pm- After dinner, shamans host a cleansing ceremony surrounded by the warm jungle breeze and millions of bright stars overhead.
  • Day 3: Atun Poza lagoon/ Pacaya River
05.30am- Morning yoga on the hammock deck before breakfast. 07.30am- Disembark and explore the small Atun Poza village before hiking through the pristine rainforest, one of the world’s richest habitats, passing under a canopy that can reach 55 metres tall and a lagoon teaming with fish. Refreshing icy towels are handed out at the waiting skiffs, before setting out again to try to spot the shy pygmy marmoset, the world’s smallest monkey, which can be seen feeding in this area. 3.30pm- Set off in the skiff boats to reach a spectacular river spot, which provides a unique opportunity to swim among the grey and pink river dolphins. 9.30pm- After dinner, the shamans host a wet (wear a bathing suit!) rejuvenation ceremony to restore mind, body and soul with the healing spirits and tradition of the forest.
  • Day 4: Yarapa river/ Puerto Miguel/Nauta
5.30am- Pre-breakfast yoga on a river sand beach. 7.00am- A skiff expedition along the Yarapa river, with good chances to see capuchin monkeys, herons, egrets and green iguanas. Stopping at the village of Puerto Miguel, visit with local people to learn about their traditions and handicrafts. 11.00am- Back aboard the Delfin, a sleepy stretch of the river affords a final spot of relaxation before a farewell lunch featuring the best of Amazonian cuisine’s flavours and colours. 1.30pm- Disembark at Nauta and board a bus to visit a baby manatee (sea cow) rescue centre, where the biologist in charge allows visitors to feed these gentle creatures and learn about the rescue programme. 4.45pm- Arrive at Iquitos airport.
